Andhra Pradesh has a historic importance when it comes to temples. The state with a rich heritage has a lot of temple towns which become mandatory in the itenary of any traveller.


Tirumala, Tirupathi

Tirumala & Tirupathi are the names of the temple towns which every hindu would remember and would want to visit atleast once in his life time. It is one of the most ancient and spectacular places of pilgrimage in India, situated in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Tirupathi owes its existence to the sacred temple of Lord Sri Venkateswara situated on the Tirumala Hill adjoining it. A history that dates back to over twelve centuries, the temple is the jewel in the crown of ancient places of worship in India.

The Tirumala Hill which is at a heiglt of 3200 ft above sea level, is about 10.33 sq miles in area. It comprises seven peaks, representing the seven hoods of a Serpant, thus earning the name, Seshachalam. The seven peaks are called Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri, Anjanadri, Vrishabhadri, Narayanadri and Venkatadri.


Tirumala is presided over by the deity Lord Venkateshwara. In Tiruchanoor, Godess Padmavathi Devi's temple is located.
