Hill Stations in Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh, though not famous for its hill stations, has few places which give the feel of a hill stations.
Horsley Hills
Horsley Hills, at an altitude of 1,265 meters above sea level is a famous summer hill resort in Andhra Pradesh. Its nearest city is Tirupathi
Bangalore, in the neighbouring state of Karnataka is about 160 km from Horsley Hills. Madanapalle in Chittoor district is the nearest town.
Major tourist attractions include the Mallamma temple and the Rishi valley school. Horsely Hills is the departure point for the Koundinya Wildlife Sanctuary at a
distance of 87 km. The narrow road to Horsely Hills is very scenic. Trees like eucalyptus, jacaranda, allamanda, and gulmohar grow in dense and gives it a thick forest like atmosphere.
Legend says that the place is haunted by some ghosts.
Tirumala Hills
The Tirumala Hills which is famous of the richest god on earth is also located at an altitude of 3200 ft above Sea level. This is a famous pilgrim
destination all over the world. The group of hills which have lot of natural resources surrounding them. There are a couple of small natural waterfalls
on the hills namely Akasha Ganga and Papavinasanam. Srivari Padalu is a place which is almost located at one of the higest point of the hills which gives
pleasent feel to who ever visit. There is a rock garden in Tirumala called as Shilatoranam which is a natural rock formation resembling thoranams. The
Ghat roads used in the transit gives immense pleasure to who ever travel by them.
Araku Valley
Situated at 115 km from the steal city of Andhra Pradesh, Vishakhapatnam, Araku Valley is famous for its scenic beauty. The valley is located at an altitude
of 2900 feet above sea level. Cruising through the ghat road in the middle of trick forest is an breath taking experience. Some of the places that can
be seen at Araku are Borra Caves which are natural cave formations, Ananthagiri Hills which are famous of coffee plantations & a Museum of Handicrafts.
A train journey from Vizag to Araku is prefered as it goes though a number of tunnels. Tyda, which is a forest area is also near Araku and AP Tourism has
constructed cotteges to stay there.
